Dr. Michael Barta founded the Begin Again Institute to specialize in Intensive Treatment for Sex and Pornography Addiction and those who have been devastated by these very personal addictions. The program's cutting-edge treatment has successfully treated hundreds of men, women, and couples facing the devastation caused by sex and pornography addictions.
Dr. Barta has over 31 years of experience with addictions, and 10 years specializing only in sex and pornography addictions and the partners of the addict. Dr. Barta is a Ph.D. level Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist – Supervisor, that exhibits exemplary clinical skills and an approachable style of treatment and communication. His effectiveness is enhanced by his own recovery process to assure that each individual and/or couple’s needs are thoroughly addressed.
Dr. Barta was fortunate in that he was in one of the last cohorts to receive his clinical training in sexual addiction directly from Dr. Patrick Carnes, the founder of the sex addiction treatment field. He has over 31 years of addiction recovery experience and 10 years specializing in the treatment of sex and porn addictions and the betrayed partners. He has lectured and written extensively on the subject of sex and porn addiction. His recently published book, TINSA (Trauma-Induced Sexual Addiction) provides a neurological approach to sex addiction and is now available on Amazon. Dr. Barta has utilized his clinical skill and personal recovery with his own sexually compulsive issues to create a model that works on the cause of sexual addiction rather than just providing techniques to remain abstinent. He is a nationally acknowledged speaker in the field of sex addiction and frequently provides lectures and trainings for therapists regarding the treatment of sex and pornography addictions and compulsivity.
TINSA®, or Trauma Induced Sexual Addiction, explores the effects of adverse developmental experiences on a young brain and nervous system and illustrates how the damage caused by those experiences encourages addictive behavior.
Realizing how many sex addicts suffer from abandonment, neglect, and other childhood trauma led TINSA® creator Michael Barta, PhD, LPC, CSAT, to examine how emotional wounding leads to the need to self-regulate the release of the pleasure hormone dopamine through sexual stimuli. As increasing levels of dopamine are required over time to reach the same “high,” by adulthood, self-regulation can produce compulsive, damaging sexual behavior.
Through TINSA®, Barta offers the means to treat sex addiction at the source, reducing compulsive sexual behavior over time and providing effective, long-term recovery. TINSA® has helped thousands already. It can help you too.
